বালিয়া মসজিদ, ঠাকুরগাঁও
অবস্থান:
ঠাকুরগাঁও জেলার ভুল্লী নামক স্থানে মসজিদটির অবস্থান। পঞ্চগড়ের বোদা যাওয়ার পথে পরে এই ভুল্লী। মূল সড়ক থেকে প্রায় ৩ কি.মি. ভেতরে গেলেই চোখে পড়বে দৃষ্টিনন্দন এই মসজিদ। স্থানীয়দের কাছে এটি জ্বীনের মসজিদ নামে পরিচিত।
ইতিহাস:
আনুমানিক ১৯১০ খ্রীস্টাব্দে ঠাকুরগাঁও এর জমিদার মেহের বকস চৌধুরী মসজিদটির নির্মান কাজ শুরু করেন। মেহের বকস এর দাদার নিবাস ছিল বিহারে। সেখান থেকে জলপাইগুড়ি। মেহের বকসের বাবা ব্রিটিশ আমলে ঠাকুরগাও এ ব্যবসা করতে আসেন।
মসজিদটি নির্মানের জন্য মুর্শিদাবাদ থেকে একজন স্থপতি নিয়ে আসা হয়৷ তার কাজ ছিল মুঘল স্থাপত্যের আদলে মসজিদ নির্মান করার। তিনি দেয়াল ও মিনার স্থাপন করলেও মসজিদটির গম্বুজ নির্মানে ব্যার্থ হন। এরপর প্রায় ১০০ বছর মসজিদটি গম্বুজ ছাড়াই দাঁড়িয়ে থাকে।
অবশেষে ২০১০ সালে প্রত্নতাত্ত্বিক বিভাগের তত্ত্বাবধানে তিনটি গম্বুজ নির্মানসহ মসজিদটির সংস্কার কাজ সম্পন্ন হয়।
অবকাঠামো:
তিনটি গম্বুজ ও আটটি মিনার নিয়ে দাঁড়িয়ে আছে বালিয়া মসজিদ। মূল ভূমি থেকে মসজিদটি একটি প্লাটফর্মের উপর প্রায় সাড়ে ৫ ফুট উপরে অবস্থিত।
মূল ভবনের দেয়াল পোড়া ইট ও চুন-সুরকির মর্টার দিয়ে নির্মিত। ইট কেটে করা হয়েছে সুন্দর নকশা। পদ্মফুল, কলসি, ঘন্টা ইত্যাদির নকশা খচিত দেয়াল গুলো পেয়েছে অভিজাত্যের ছোয়া।
কীভাবে যাবেন?
ঢাকাএ গাবতলি থেকে ঠাকুরগাঁও এর বাস পেয়ে যাবেন অনায়াসে। হানিফ, নাবিলসহ আরো অনেক উত্তরবঙ্গের বাস রয়েছে। সরাসরি চলে যাবেন ঠাকুরগাঁও এর সদরে। সেখানে নেমে পঞ্চগড়গামী বাসে উঠে পড়তে পারেন। অথবা নিতে পারেন অটো। কিছুটা এগুলোলেই পাবেন ভুল্লি বাজার। সেখানে থেমে একটি রিকশা নিন। ভুল্লি বাজার থেকে ৩.৭ কি.মি. ভেতরে গেলেই পৌছে যাবেন বালিয়া মসজিদ।

Location
The mosque is located in Bhulli, under Thakurgaon district. On the way to Boda in Panchagarh, you will come across Bhulli. Just about 3 km inside from the main road, you’ll find this eye-catching mosque. Among the locals, it is popularly known as “Jinn-er Mosque” (The Mosque of the Spirits).
History
The construction of the mosque began around 1910 AD under Thakurgaon’s zamindar Meher Baks Chowdhury. His ancestral roots trace back to Bihar, from where the family later moved to Jalpaiguri. Meher Baks’ father came to Thakurgaon during the British era to pursue business.
For the construction of the mosque, an architect was brought in from Murshidabad. His task was to build it following Mughal architectural style. Although he successfully established the walls and minarets, he failed to construct the domes. As a result, the mosque stood without domes for almost 100 years.
Finally, in 2010, under the supervision of the Archaeological Department, the restoration project was completed, including the addition of three domes.
Architecture
The Balia Mosque stands with three domes and eight minarets. The entire structure is positioned on a platform approximately 5.5 feet above the ground level.
The original walls are built using burnt bricks and lime-surki mortar. Beautiful brick carvings decorate the structure. Motifs such as lotus flowers, pitchers, bells, and other intricate designs reflect a distinct sense of elegance and aristocracy.
How to Go
From Dhaka’s Gabtoli bus terminal, you can easily catch a bus to Thakurgaon. Several northern route services including Hanif, Nabil, and others are available. You can get off at the Thakurgaon main stop and then board a bus heading toward Panchagarh—or simply hire an auto.
Once you reach Bhulli Bazar, take a rickshaw. From there, driving another 3.7 km inward will take you straight to Balia Mosque.
